The vast majority of new patients turn to chiropractic because they are in pain. You welcome them in your office. You explain how stress can cause nerve interference. You try to educate them on how nerve interference can have far reaching effects on their health. You might even use the 'S' word: subluxation.
While this concept is likely new and a bit strange for them to accept, they are in pain... so they are willing to give chiropractic a try.
Depending on your technique and the equipment you have in your office, you might take x-rays, thermal readings, surface EMG, ROM. Yet even if you have the most accurate equipment ever invented to show your patient their misaligned vertebrae or their paraspinal muscle imbalance or temperature asymmetries, what does it really communicate to them as it relates to their nervous system? Not much.
Even though you talk 'Nervous system'... even though you stress the importance of the 'Nervous System'... most chiropractors are unable to bridge the gap between the pain that brought the patient through the door... and their nervous system. Ultimately, all they have to go on is their pain... and your word.
Pain relief is no small accomplishment. It can be worth a lot to someone who is experiencing it. But if that is where your care ends, you may be missing out on some of your patients... and your patients may be missing out on some of their health.
Imagine how things might be different if rather than trying to convince patients that chiropractic works, you were able to show them that it does?
Imagine that Mrs. Johnson comes into your office complaining of headaches. You sit down with her and explain the importance of her nervous system and nervous system balance. Then using the NeuroInfiniti you perform a Stress Response Evaluation.
Looking at the results, you identify that she has an over-aroused nervous system. Depending on her level of overarousal, she is likely to have several other symptoms or conditions: cold hands, teeth grinding, anxiety, high blood pressure, and others. You take a few moments to go over the results with her. You explain the importance of the brain being able to control and coordinate all of the systems in her body. You explain how improper nervous system function can cause a lot more health challenges than simply headaches. You explain the role that you will take to help restore proper nerve system function.
And with the ability to see how her nervous sytem is functioning, do you think that Mrs. Johnson is going to base her care on her pain and just your word... like the old days? Not likely.
This challenge seems to be the “big troll” blocking the advancement of Neurologically Based Chiropractic. Many D.C.s have been telling the “Vertebral Subluxation” story for so long that if they change their story, they are afraid patients will think they have been lying to them. Here is the most important point – your belief that the nervous system is the primary focus of your care is CORRECT! The only difference is that new information shows that what you have been doing is much more powerful than anyone knew until now! The only thing that has really changed is that we now know exactly how the adjustment works! Now that we know how it works, we can offer even better care than before! This is what the profession has been searching for from the very start!

Compromised Neural Integrity. Subluxation is a neurological imbalance or distortion in the body associated with adverse physiological responses and/or structural changes, which may become persistent and progressive. This is the question Chiropractors should have been asking from the beginning. B. J. Palmer, the developer of Chiropractic, tried to tell the profession in the 1930s that Vertebral Subluxation was a symptom not a cause. As stressors overload the nervous system, it responds with actions designed for short term duration. These patterns become habituated and the system loses its ability to recover. Muscle patterns become unbalanced and create distortions in structure, and/or system function. The Vertebral Subluxation (VS) is a tertiary response. First is neurological – second is muscular and third is structural.
