A New Chapter in Neurofeedback – Passive Infrared (pIR)
With the new optional pIR sensors you can measure the change in metabolic rate resulting from elevated neuronal activity. This form of Neurofeedback is in no way intended to replace traditional EEG; however, it does have several advantages in day to day practice that our clients are sure to appreciate:
The device incorporates two very sensitive and highly accurate passive infrared (pIR) sensors mounted on a lightweight, ergonomic headset to provide responsive and unimpeded monitoring and training of radiated infrared temperature emission, over the frontal area.
Research is being done around the world with pIR on migraines, autism, ADHD, cognitive performance, and alleviating depression, stress, and chronic anxiety. The research is still in the early stages, but so far the results are quite promising.
The point of the passive infrared (pIR) training is to learn to increase the blood flow to the prefrontal cortex. Though increased neuronal activity is involved here, there are many others things at play. Here is a good place to start to learn more about it. You do have to have the NI2 6.02 update in order to use this sensor.

Why purchase the pIR sensor. . . for those patients with severe migraines, attention and impulse control, mood and stress control and sensory gating issues.
