Dr. Clint & Tina Steele
After 17 years of a practice, caught in the insurance trap and only seeing patients for neck and low back pain, Dr. Clint Steele quit. Three years later he found himself broke, selling Kirby vacuum cleaners door to door and that’s when he decided to get back in to practice but this time doing it his way. He took it away from pain and focused on the Brain! With $1000 to his name, he started his new practice in a 700 square foot office, 100% cash, no insurance and went from 0-500 patient visits a week in just six months. That’s when TRUCHIRO was born! His wife Tina, who has her Master’s degree in Higher Education, was an integral part of the success of his new practice so together, they set out to help other Doctor’s do the same.
DeDe Van Riper
Sales Manager, NeuroInfiniti
DeDe has worked in many different aspects of the Chiropractic profession over the course of her career. Over the years her roles have changed, and technology has changed, but the one thing that drives her the most remains, that there are so many people in the world who are suffering in one form or another and don’t know that there are answers to their challenges. The advances in technology are astounding. The power of Neurofeedback speaks for itself. But it – like chiropractic – remains a big secret. DeDe has personally trained and supported clients around the world about the many benefits of the NeuroInfiniti, Neurologically Based Chiropractic and Brain Based Wellness. For over twenty five years she has made great strides in – and takes great pride in – helping doctors get the big Idea. DeDe is our go to expert and Sales Manager for the Neuroinfiniti and believes there is no better feeling than witnessing first hand, someone getting their health back, their spouse back, or their child back…literally on many levels get their life back.
How It All Started
Neurologically Based Chiropractic (NBC)
As a chiropractic student, I heard many stories about patients having great changes in their health issues far beyond the relief of back or neck pain. In fact, while I was interning, I had a young patient with Cerebral Palsy who would have improved muscle control after adjustments, to the point of being able to play baseball.
Once in practice, I continued to see major changes in severe health challenges such as: a 2 year old in a catatonic state from a birth trauma, return to normal function and intelligence over a 5 year period of care. My 32 years of practice experience continued to challenge the concepts of limiting Chiropractic to both the bone on nerve with vertebral subluxation theory and/or a pain relief only profession.
My quest for a better explanation of the power of the Chiropractic Adjustment to change people’s lives took me to Dr. Guy Riekeman’s “Quest” program and a move to Colorado, where I met Dr. Annette Long, a clinical Psychologist, and her husband Dr. Alvah Byers a research Psychologist. Both were world experts in brain function and EEG studies.
We started doing pre and post Chiropractic Adjustment EEG studies, which revealed major changes in EEGpatterns post adjustment. Many of the changes, after one adjustment, were equal to 50 to 200 sessions of professionally applied neurofeedback training.
As we continued to study the effects of Chiropractic Adjustments on brain function, it became obvious that I needed to develop an EEG based system for use in Chiropractic offices. While working on the instrument, I realized that a static assessment (moment in time) was not adequate when working with a dynamic adaptable system.
I realized that while stress is the cause of neurological breakdown, the instrument‘s program had to address the stress response and recovery ability on both “cortical” patterns and “limbic system” responses. Nothing happens quickly, and after several generations, we have the “NeuroInfiniti” instrument developed specifically for Neurologically Based Chiropractic practices.
The scientific research being provided today on the effects of the Chiropractic adjustment’s ability to improve brain function finally explains those remarkable patient responses in all of those chiropractic stories and my experiences. I am grateful for being part of the great gifts of Chiropractic during my years of practice.
Old Conversation (Pain Model)
The vast majority of new patients turn to chiropractic because they are in pain. You welcome them in your office. You explain how stress can cause nerve interference. You try to educate them on how nerve interference can have far reaching effects on their health. You might even use the ‘S’ word: subluxation.
While this concept is likely new and a bit strange for them to accept, they are in pain… so they are willing to give chiropractic a try.
Depending on your technique and the equipment you have in your office, you might take x-rays, thermal readings, surface EMG, ROM. Yet even if you have the most accurate equipment ever invented to show your patient their misaligned vertebrae or their paraspinal muscle imbalance or temperature asymmetries, what does it really communicate to them as it relates to their nervous system? Not much.
Even though you talk ‘Nervous system’… even though you stress the importance of the ‘Nervous System’… most chiropractors are unable to bridge the gap between the pain that brought the patient through the door… and their nervous system. Ultimately, all they have to go on is their pain… and your word.
Pain relief is no small accomplishment. It can be worth a lot to someone who is experiencing it. But if that is where your care ends, you may be missing out on some of your patients… and your patients may be missing out on some of their health.
Imagine how things might be different if rather than trying to convince patients that chiropractic works, you were able to show them that it does?
New Conversation (Brain Model)
Imagine that Mrs. Johnson comes into your office complaining of headaches. You sit down with her and explain the importance of her nervous system and nervous system balance. Then using the NeuroInfiniti you perform a Stress Response Evaluation.
Looking at the results, you identify that she has an over-aroused nervous system. Depending on her level of overarousal, she is likely to have several other symptoms or conditions: cold hands, teeth grinding, anxiety, high blood pressure, and others. She says that her hands are always cold, but that is just “normal” for her. You let her know that it may be normal, but it isn’t healthy.
You take a few moments to go over the results with her. You explain the importance of the brain being able to control and coordinate all of the systems in her body. You explain how improper nervous system function can cause a lot more health challenges than simply headaches. You explain the role that you will take to help restore proper nervous system function.
And with the ability to see how her nervous system is functioning, do you think that Mrs. Johnson is going to base her care on her pain and just your word… like the old days? Not likely.
Down The Rabbit Hole
How to move from pain-based to brain-based in your office.
This challenge seems to be the “big troll” blocking the advancement of Neurologically Based Chiropractic. Many D.C.s have been telling the “Vertebral Subluxation” story for so long that if they change their story, they are afraid patients will think they have been lying to them. Here is the most important point – your belief that the nervous system is the primary focus of your care is CORRECT! The only difference is that new information shows that what you have been doing is much more powerful than anyone knew until now! The only thing that has really changed is that we now know exactly how the adjustment works! Now that we know how it works, we can offer even better care than before! This is what the profession has been searching for from the very start!

NEUROLOGICALLY BASED CHIROPRACTIC (NBC)
The philosophical approach (basic belief) in which the Central Nervous System is the primary focus of Chiropractic care and all spinal mechanics, joint play, vertebral fixations, VS or VSC responses are secondary or tertiary in nature.
A Chiropractic procedure whereby the consequence of an action serves to continually modify further action within the nervous system with the intent of creating harmony within the body’s systems.
Compromised Neural Integrity. Subluxation is a neurological imbalance or distortion in the body associated with adverse physiological responses and/or structural changes, which may become persistent and progressive. The most frequent site for the chiropractic correction of subluxation is via the vertebral column. Council on Chiropractic Practice Guidelines 2013
EVER WONDERED WHAT CAUSED THE VERTEBRAL MISALIGNMENT
This is the question Chiropractors should have been asking from the beginning. B. J. Palmer, the developer of Chiropractic, tried to tell the profession in the 1930s that Vertebral Subluxation was a symptom not a cause. As stressors overload the nervous system, it responds with actions designed for short term duration. These patterns become habituated and the system loses its ability to recover. Muscle patterns become unbalanced and create distortions in structure, and/or system function. The Vertebral Subluxation (VS) is a tertiary response. First is neurological – second is muscular and third is structural.
